My shoe narrative concerning multicultural e-learning

My shoes are colorful and comfortable. After I have bought my shoes, they have enjoyed the Finnish nature. Originally my shoes were very global, the brand is multinational and my shoes are made in Vietnam. I came curious about the sustainability of my shoes. I started to wonder if this multinational company is carrying it´s social responsibility in countries where the shoes are made. Are the factory workers treated fairly? Do they have the proper possibilities for education and income? And how the environment is taken care of? Now and at the future everyone has to take in to account the sustainability even more, meaning that in addition to the economy take care about the society and the environment. New technology will help here at some parts. To me multicultural eLearning is one of the options for the sustainable education, and education can improve the quality of the people´s lives.

  1. Hi Tuire!

I like your shoes loads - the colour and the comfort - sweet!

I also have to say I share your thoughts on the topics you talk about in your blog; I´m also very interested in eLearning and the availability of different digital methods concerning education. I also strongly think that online learning is the future of education both nationally and internationally, culturally and multiculturally. Like you I think that eLearning has potential to give equal education possibilities for people throughout the world, though this will require international and multicultural cooperation among different organizations and nations, but the bottom line is that online learning carries vast educational possibilities.

I think your background is interesting with your online and multicultural work experience. Also your experience and expertise in the IT field will likely to become handy during this course. I might have to consult you on some of the technical aspects during the course.. Can I?

  3. Hi Tuire!

You have here a learning blog with fluent writing and very nice pictures. It's actually a bit funny that we both posted seasonal pictures, and as you mentioned in my blog, we have similarities in professional backgrounds, too. And now we are both trying to understand authentic e-learning in multicultural context. :)

I wanted to thank you for raising the topic of sustainability in your shoe narrative. It's true that more and more people will be able to reach education online and there is potential for significant impact on individuals and societies - this is also one of the reasons why I like the idea of open learning resources and free sharing of materials.

I hope you and your pink shoes keep enjoying the warm autumn days out in the nature! :)

  4. Hi Tuire,

Thank you for describing your multicultural experience as a background for starting to argument your multicultural understanding in more detail. Working as a multicultural trainer is certainly very interesting authentic context when studying more about multicultural authentic e-learning.

I noticed that a sustainable development perspective is essential part of your concept of "multicultural e-learning". I hope that you will carry this view with you along the module:) You picked up an important aspect of education in a global context - also from the pedagogical point of view in order to implement high quality e-learning. I felt you also connected this view in an excellent and narratively way to your shoe metaphor.

By the way, what are you expecting from your peers during this module?

  5. Hi Tuire,

Love pink shoes! :-) But also found echoes of my own concerns in your post - the key word being sustainability. Sustainability has been much on my mind in regard to distance education/online learning, especially in developing countries and volunteer work. The more I think about it, the more I believe that sustainability is the key factor of success, whether that be in participating in volunteer work to online education as a viable option of educational development.
